Thursday:
Melbourne was sooooo good. We had so much fun and everything went to plan. We even learned how to use the trams and found the whole system easy and convenient.

Our hotel, The Hotel Enterprize, on Spencer Street was very good value and the room was clean and they looked after us well.
We were up bright and early Thursday morning to start exploring. What better place to start than at a chocolate shop. This Haighs chocolate shop is in the beautiful Block Arcade with it’s wondrous floor mosaics and lead lighting etc. The shops are all exquisite in this arcade.
Thursday was spent at the AQC quilt show which was in the glorious Royal Exhibition building. The building is so beautiful and outside the autumn leaves carpeted the lawns. A very pretty sight. There were some stunning quilts in the exhibition and of course my friend, Joan, and I, did a little shopping and enjoyed browsing the many stalls.
We stayed at the quilt show until about 4.00pm and then walked just across the square to the Melbourne Museum and saw the amazing Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs exhibition.

We actually walked back to our hotel that night which was a long, long way, and we fell into bed (after a Chinese meal next door).
More about our Friday excursion later.

Oh DI, Haigh's candy I remember it well. Loved it too. LOL Oh, what very very grand building you all have. The fountain is awesome as is the building where the quilt show was held. The inside was truly beautiful. What a glorious site for a quilt show. Lucky you. Inspiration every where. The Mall looked fantastic shopping place and I loved the Mosaic too. And how glorious was the Grand Autumn Trees. Thanks for sharing all these wonderful wonderful photos with us all. Hugs Judy
Hi Diane,
I am so happy you had a wonderful four days in Melbourne. The photos are beautiful. Love the Mall with the Mosaic. I am sure the shops were great there. :)
Hugs
Having lived in Victoria, the sights in Melbourne are very familiar. The arcades are just amazing with the most wonderful shops.
So glad you had a great time...the Royal Exhibition Building is an awesome place, and what a wonderful backdrop for the lovely quilts.
Looking forward to the next posts about your fun time on the trip.
It reminds me very much of our visit to Sidney (somehow very similar) - a most wonderful shopping-palace!! Everything exquisit and good -- and expensive.
Hi Di, I haven't blogged for a while but I just have to get on and say how much we must be kindred spirits, Spent 10 days rediscovering Melbourne just after xmas and visited many of the places you went. Coffee in the Block Arcade, little Italian place opposite the teddy shop became a regular gathering place! I would love to go with a group of people who all have similar interests though. Mum and Sis just wasn't the same !
