Selvedge Courthouse Steps

Had some more selvedge fun last weekend and put together this 12 1/2 inch courthouse step block. I figure I have so many selvages now, I am compelled to do a whole quilt.

It did take quite some time to put this block together as you are working with approx 1/2 inch strips most of the time. I have asked my friends (nicely) to cut their selvedge gifts a little bit wider for me.

Looking forward to doing more blocks to see how it all comes together. Unfortunately, too long at the sewing machine sends me off to bed with a migraine, so I will just have to do a block here and there. Another long term project Hmmmph.

Selvage Gift Cards

Selvedge or Selvage? I have always used the first spelling but it seems either will do.

There hasn't been a lot of sewing going on here at DinkyDi central. In between other jobs, I have been doing these little gift tags to co-ordinate with fat quarters which I have bought for my sewing group friends' birthdays.

They are quick and easy to make and I make them in varying ways. Sometimes I sew them directly onto the card and glue the same cardboard shape on the back. Sometimes I sew the selvedges together then glue to the card, sometimes I sew the selvedges together, cut the shape, and zigzag them on the machine to the card. I have purchased the card shapes but you could just as easy make your own shapes to 'fit' the recipient.

I try and include some text on the selvedge relevant to the persons interest or personality.

My selvedge collection is becoming huge now and I feel a selvedge log cabin or the like coming
on.

On a Roll

The last couple of days have been quiet on the home front, so I ventured into the sewing room for "little" sessions. I got these selvedge pin cushions done and also another 2 quilt journals. I really enjoy trying out different techiniques for a small project like the quilt journals.

The sewing room is calling again this afternoon, as hubby has headed off to the football in Brisbane. I intend to make another quilt journal and a couple of small items for our quilt show sales table. On a rooooooooll.
