Crochet & RSI

Why do we do it?? We know we should listen to our bodies....but no... we keep on going.

Yesterday I decided to crochet a dishcloth with some cotton I got at a very fine price at the Peachester quilt show.  Just wanted to finish it in one day!  Tonight I am paying the price.  Have rubbed some ointment into my arm and now sitting with a hot pack on it.  Looks like I will be taking a rest over the next little time with the crochet and hand quilting!!

Here is the culprit - the funkiest dishcloth ever.  A little rough around the edges but my crochet is a little rusty.

Here is our little granddaughter with her great Papa.

A Painful week

Not much of anything goin' on around here the past week.
Sparing you the boring details, I have had a 'flare up' of a pre-existing condition and it is not good. I don't cope at all well with being unwell. Tasks have to be done in little bits, so sewing and quilting have had to take a bit of a back seat while I struggle to do the basic chores.
Anywho, I am sure it will pass soon, and a warning to all quilters and sewers, take it easy on yourselves. Do not, I repeat, do not sit and sew for too long in one session and give yourselves regular breaks.
Seems I will never learn this!

In the evenings, I have been just sitting in short spurts and doing little tasks that always seem to get pushed to the side, like cleaning out ones sewing basket, cleaning out ones handbag, sorting out recipes (and chucking out recipes) etc. etc.

Hopefully after some treatment next week, I'll be back on track and able to continue work on my challenge quilt for quilt group. It is coming along well, and will be a constant reminder to not overdo things ever, ever again....... do you think??

Headache Dayze

If you are a headache sufferer you have my complete understanding and empathy.

I know people around you cannot understand how you may be completely lucid and full of life one hour and down in a screaming heap a few hours or less later.
I know the frustration of not being able to do what you want to do when you want to do it.
I know the pain.
I know the disappointment when you are unable to attend a function or something which you have been looking forward to.
I know how taking too many non-prescription cures can cause havoc with your body.

There are three headache phases in my life right now.

1. Headache - Free Days (last about 3-7 days)
2. Headache - mild to severe - All day (last about 3-7 days)
3. Migraine - Knockem down and out (last about 1-2 days)

This is what I have decided. On "headache free days" I do as much as I can of the things I can't do when I have the "headache all day".
On "headache all day" days I do mundane chores which require no concentration whatsoever.
Today, I am making a list of all those things I may be able to do on "headache all day" days.
Of course, Murphy's Law states, you are unable to do those things you enjoy most on "headache all day" days, such as sewing (hand or machine).
Needless to say, "Knockem down and out" days are simply wasted.

Let me know how you deal with headaches if you are in my camp!!!
